Our firm is experienced in international arbitration, particularly in drafting arbitration clauses, advising on and defending arbitration proceedings (institutional arbitration and ad hoc arbitration).   We have developed particular expertise in the enforcement in France of foreign court judgments and international arbitral awards, which requires special skills. At the same time, we defend clients before the French courts who are subject to the enforcement in France of foreign court judgments or arbitral awards, and who oppose this forced execution.   As a rule, these cases are resolved after lengthy legal proceedings in France. To ensure effective representation, the lawyer must be familiar with the substance of the original dispute and the procedure that has been applied. They must also have the necessary skills to handle the case where the French judge will be applying French international law.   We deal with this type of case and, in particular, we have solid experience of litigation submitted to the specialized chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal. This chamber is well known to international arbitration practitioners for having long built up and refined a body of case law on the recognition of arbitral awards in France, the cornerstone of which is the affirmation of the legitimacy, sovereignty and immutability of arbitral awards.   The inherently lengthy processing of such cases by the courts often requires parallel referral to the enforcement judge, who authorizes or, on the contrary, suspends the enforcement of disputed arbitral awards.   We assist and represent our clients’ interests (or, symmetrically, their defense) in post-arbitration proceedings in France.
